We're looking for a 10 minute max minimix; this mix is to be structured like a proper mix, but we're expecting use of computer software, so we can hear things you can't normally do by hand (triple drops, use of acapellas, samples - GO MAD)! All entries must be in 320kbps MP3 format, and sent to spectrumicr@hotmail.co.uk; the best entries will be featured on Spectrum for the duration of the competition.

The closing date for entries will be Monday, 27 July 2009, with the winner announced on Sunday, 2nd of August 2009. Prizes will include: Spearhead back catalogue + latest promos and a 60 minute mix (mixed the old fashioned way) to be featured on Spectrum! Get on your job, and GOOD LUCK!

DZK - Takeover

To be totally, 100% real with you, I'm upset that I didn't know about DZK before this year. I got introduced to him during the DOA/UAF Festival 2009 DJ Competition, and while he didn't win the competition, his mix blew me away. It was gut-wrenching, balls-to-the-wall, no-nonsense beats upon beats upon beats. What truly won me over is a blend he did, using the acapella from the classic Kosheen hit "Hide U" over Apex's "Hench" - it just worked so well, I had to hit the homey up. When I inquired about any mixes he'd like to do for this very site, he hipped me to the fact that he was already working on a massive mix, throwing together DnB inna Hip-Hop style mixtape, with drops and blends and such. Seeing as he's affiliated with T.I.'s Grand Hustle crew (this was recorded in their studio), he has some exclusive drops from Grand Hustle artists, as well as some dope DnB/Hip-Hop mash-ups - not to mention his own special blends and exclusives ("Exodus VIP" with Armanni Reign on it?!?!)... with Ricky Raw and Kakarot MC playing host, this package is perfect for those who want something both familiar and excitingly different for their ride to work/the club/wherever...
