Mistabishi's Apology

So in response to the recent non-DJing scandal, Mistabishi posted an apology over on the Banana Arena:

should prolly read the vitriol before i post but i'm in an internet cafe and don't have a right lot of time and no internets in the studio.

i'm just a raver that somehow got the chance to make tunes for people whose music i really loved from places like Rollers Warehouse / Sanctuary miltonkeyenes, Labyrinth Hackney, Hardware /End and Warning / Junction (broke a knuckle on my right hand in that fucking place!) and Hospitality nights. sorry if the dj'ing side of things snarled things up for people but all i really wanted to do was rave tbh, and more recently, go to raves where my tunes were getting played. that was the best thing about the whole experience recently anyway for me. hearing my tunes out loud with my mates.

i take very few bookings, and the only ones i want to take until i'm as happy about *the sound* of a vinyl dj set as i am about the *the sound* of my tunes, are ones with my multitrack and synth, or the occasional one where the promoter simply wants me regardless.

Mistabishi In Non-DJing Scandal?

Spotted over on Dogs On Acid, via this thread on DNBArena:

The rumours are true. Mistabishi is a complete and utter fake.
I went to Bassment presents Hospitality @ Bar Mango in Reading last night and it was awesome. High Contrast and Logistics both played wicked sets, i was having a great time until i went up to the balcony (which overlooks the DJ booth) at the beginning of Mistabishi's set and watched him play a mix CD on a CDJ and prick about pressing buttons for a whole hour!
I litterally couldn't believe my eyes!! He put vinyl on the decks then pretended to mix them...even though it was the same 2 vinyl the whole night! How do i know? Because i watched him take a vinyl off a turntable, put it in his bag, get it BACK out then put it on the other turn table and pretend to mix it!
The guy spent so much time dancing like a penis behind the decks in not supprised he couldnt mix. It's annoyed me a little bit because the Bassment guys work so hard to put nights on and with the exception of Mistabishi it was a wicked night!
Let this be a lesson to all you promoters out there, he charges hundreds of pounds to turn up and play a mixed cd.

Here's an explanation, having to do with what sounds like a live PA set-up that didn't come to fruition:

Mistabishi was contracted to do a set using just studio hardware, effectively performing his tunes live. Me and Mistabishi turned up to Mango a good couple of hours before his set time at 3am to give him enough time to set all the equipment up to enable hm to perform a live set. This equipment included an Akai digital sampler/mixer, something similar to an Akai APC40 but twice the size (it's about a metre in legth). Well it turned out that there was not enough room to set it up, and therefore, he was forced to mix CD's and the few vinyl that he had. As you lot have discovered he doesnt care for mixing vinyl, he wants to move onto performing live from now on, so since he was unable to perform live, he was forced to go back to his old tricks. I'm sure you will agree, especially the creator of this thread since you had a good view of the stage (or lack of it), that no consideration had been given by the promoter to enable him to set up his machines so they stayed in the back of my car all night!

There are some pre-mix accusations being lobbed as well:

PLEASE READ...... This is how it was regarding Mistabishi. 1. We tried to contact mistabishi for two weeks leading up to the event, with no reply. 2. When he turned up on the night his rig was one akai sampler, i asked him what he needed and he said a phono lead out of the back of a cdj would be fine to connect the sampler. I did this and he promptly said he needed 3/4 inch jack connector to connect it to the akai sampler. 3. We then found him a phono to 3/4 inch jack lead which would of connected the sampler to the mixer and he said" its fine i've sorted something else out." 4. With regards to the space we could of quite easily moved the 3rd deck in the dj box, which would of given him ample room for his rig. 5. It felt like he didnt want to perform live, he then played cd's and to my horror watched him pretend to dj when the pre mixed cd's were doing the work. i dont understand why he could just mix his tunes like a dj should do. 6. We think that mistabishi is a excellent producer but feel cheated on how he performed, we thought the pre made mix cd's was a myth. A lot of our residents was watching him above the dj box and he was definately pretending. Our night has been running for 5 years and we are always pushing the boundaries and doing things in Reading a bit different, mistabishi set was definately different but in the wrong way. Last night was our 5th birthday and for someone to do this on such an important night has left us speechless. We would like to thank everyone who came last night and thanks to the hospitality team for letting us put on this night. Bassment team

For me, a classic. All about the vocal breakdowns on this one!

With ‘It’s Alright..’ being so long, I feel there’s plenty of space for a tease underneath. Windrush is perfect, just adds the extra deep bass element. Tracks like Brand New Funk & Strictly Social may be better known, but for me this is one of the main cuts on the album.

2 Sonic Generation – Without Reason (Looking Good Records)

A very recent 2nd hand purchase. Just the right, lush musical styles you’d expect from this label.

3 Peshay – Jah VIP Rollers Mix (Razors Edge)

Essential remix from Goldie’s Timeless album. I love the inclusion of the ‘Timeless’ vocal. Not many releases on this Metalheadz offshoot, buy on sight!

4 Mr L – This Is Hardcore (Mr L Records)

After I heard this again recently on an old Fabio & Grooverider live mix, I knew I’d be digging out my copy soon.

5 Roni Size/Reprazent – Watching Windows [DJ Die Gnarly Vocal Mix] (Original on New Forms LP – Talkin’ loud)

Big remix from a big album. I usually hear and play the Instrumental mix, so I’ve been flipping it recently.

6 Seba & Paradox – Red Tears (Secret Operations)

Starting to get a bit darker now, and sets the mix up perfectly for...

7 Source Direct – Mind Weaver (Exorcise The Demons LP – Science)

Cold, cold, cold! I love the slow development of those crisp amen edits.

8 Spirit – Final Chapter [TransAtlantic Turmoil Mix] (Timeless Recordings)

A bit of local talent here (I would often catch Duncan outside Wilkinson!). One of the earlier Spirit tracks I bought, along with his remix of Spinechilla by Rareform.

9 Scorpio – Machines (Deep Red Recordings)

More local talent, bought at the same time as the Sonic Generation track. I knew Tom at Redeye Records had run a label named Deep Red, but this is the first release I’ve seen. One off Klute alias on this.

A spur of the moment decision to spice up the last track as it played out. Of the records I had ready, I felt this one would best add to the intensity of ‘Machines’.
