DOA Q&A: Shimon

It was few years back when I tried to organize a special mix from Shimon for DOA. I don't recall why it never materialized, but I'm glad I finally got to converse with him. He's had AudioPorn running for a few years now, so to hear him speak on learning a lot and what the future holds (including releasing Tali's Dark Days, High Nights LP in August) was great. You can also check the video for Tali's "Dark Days" single, a slice of dubstep that was produced by Ed Rush. You read that right. Read the whole feature over on DOA.

Nidal - Ghostridin'

A couple of weeks ago, I got sent Total Science and S.P.Y.'s Ghostrider EP, and aside from the SICK amount of tunes packed in all of it's versions, I realized something: in a short time, these guys had amassed a solid number of tunes together. I had inquired on twitter about DJs wanting to sort out a Total Science & S.P.Y. Megamix, and the one like Nidal (who represents over at Blog and Bass, as well as urn1350.net's Drum & Bass Show) answered my call, and cooked up an amazing mix from their brief catalog, including bits like "Jericho", "Ploc Monster", "Gangsta", "Legion" and others, including new bits from the Ghostrider EP. 33+ minutes of one of the best production outfits currently in the game today - rinse it!

Japan Relief, In Beats

With the devastating effects of the recent earthquake(s) and tsunami(s), the DnB and Bass music communities are rallying to get some dollars towards relief effort for Japan; here are a few instances where you're getting great music for some donations towards relief.

Cyantific "Space Zombie" - this previously-unreleased track is available for donations. You probably heard this on Hospital Mix: Seven from 2009, as well as a number of other outlets. Big up for that, sir.
Heist "Pray For Japan" - Here's a slice of dubstep from Heist and the folks at UKF, which is offered for free but with the thought that you'd contribute whatever you had to Japan. With his forays into dubstep and drumstep, it's good to hear him giving away quality beats like this, for a good cause.
DJ Marky & Makoto "Without You" - I previewed this the other day, and I'm glad that a Japanese DnB artist is doing something for his community. This'll be out on Human Elements, and I imagine a good portion (if not all) of the proceeds will be going to relief efforts.

I also saw on Friday that Beatport plans to donate all profits made Monday to disaster relief as well. If you support artists, do yourselves a favor and support that as well. Thanks to anyone who is sending their love monetarily to Japan, using their art. Spread love.
